At the first look of
Bangalore, one may find its passage hazardous through its traffic or the
architecture might look outdated but it still has an indescribable charm. Being
new to the city of gardens, it was an eye opener to most of us when we went
into researching about Bangalore’s history. From having several names of the
city like “the city of gardens”,” the pensioners paradise” or the IT hub to
being called the town of boiled beans which was named by Kempagowda , the city
has its own fervor .
It was interesting to
know how the city has developed so much from just a mud fort to such a vast
area spreading out in every direction where not even a square inch area is left
unused. This shows how kempagowda’s vision is fulfilled and exceeded as he has
had sensed that his small town was bound to grow beyond the walls of his mud
fort. Today it has places like Jayanagar Complex, the biggest of its kind in
Asia, Ulsoor tank as well as the parks and mini forests that are being created.
It can surely be called a city of mystical past as till now it retains evidences
of Anglo Indians and the Britishers in some sections of the society.
It is surely the most
sort out cosmopolitan city in India where people migrate here from all over
generally because it’s a home to many well-recognized
colleges and research institutions in India.
Being called the most green, liberal and forward-thinking city, In recent years, these
attributes have propelled Bangalore to the forefront of the high-tech industry
boom in India, and it currently ranks as India's most developed city and one of
the world's fastest growing urban areas. Also, it was
interesting to know how a caste system existed despite the society being
relatively modernized during the British Raj and the attempts made to unite
these separate entities by providing them with a social platform that had
rather interesting consequences.
Moreover, It did not only have a vivid past but at the same time its
present is all the more exciting because of the way it has developed into being
called the Silicon valley of India, This perhaps, is due to the influence of
various multinationals, as well as, various IT firms that have been established
in this city. I have been able to
figure out, what goes behind the scenes in the lifestyles of IT professionals
as well as Call Centre employees, Despite the comforts and luxuries available
to them in abundance, they seem to lead a very discontented and unsatisfied
life. Living under the constant pressure of performing we ll and constantly
being monitored for ideal performance, leads to several health perils, in the
form of Hypertension and extreme stress.
As Bangalore throbs with life and activities today because of the flow
of traffic and the jam of pedestrians on the street, It still has a balance of both
the busy fast life with a slow pace.
From knowing the history to living in the present, I felt a major casualty of the expansion of Bangalore has been its open
spaces. A city that earlier went by the sobriquet of ‘Garden City’, and was
traditionally known for its many parks and lakes, today offers about half of
its population less than a single square meter of an open space.
