my impressions of bangalore

Bangalore is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Bangalore is well known as a hub for India’s technology center. Bangalore has many different identities. The ‘city of boiled beans’, ‘the silicon valley of India’,’ the pensioners paradise’ and ‘the garden city’ are of the common identities given to Bangalore.

Bangalore now commonly called the silicon valley of India but this title was not easy to attain. The efforts and hard work of the bangalorians is something that’s made it the silicon valley of India from being the city of boiled beans. These efforts have made it the 4th best it hub in the world.

Bangalore is also known as the garden city because of its greenery and the presence of many public parks, including lal bagh and cubbon park. Bangalore with its green surroundings and good climate makes it a perfect location for the residents and well as work. This is the main reason why many people from all over the world migrated to Bangalore. The greenery and beauty of Bangalore has also attracted many tourist from all over the world.

Bangalore was also very famous for caste system as many of the places and people were divided according to caste. Caste system was so dominant that most of the roads were also divided according to caste.

In the 19th century i.e. in the pre independence period Bangalore became the twin city due to the language barrier in the city and the cantonment. The cantonment was still perceived as largely Tamil speaking opposed to the Kannada speaking city. Gothak agitation was the flash point of the dispute. This was not the first time the conflict had taken place, the conflict had grown in the colonial period itself and was quite an important factor in the politics in the early years of the 19th century.
The isolation of the cantonment and the city from each other was so complete that there was a noticeable distinction in between the Tamils from the cantonment and Tamils from the city. The Tamils in the city were more comfortable with Kannada and the local culture. The conflict in the city was largely within the bureaucracy and was also predominant between ethnic groups though there were times when non-Tamils were treated as Tamils if they were from Tamil Nadu.

Bangalore also was influence by the English language as apart from Kannada and Tamil English was also were commonly used. The military also had a very big influence on the public sector as many of the roads and places have military presence in them such as infantry road, brigade road and artillery road.
The city of Bangalore was also highly influenced by the British as the atmosphere was very relaxed and people were free to do what they liked.

In the beginning of class I had a very vague idea about the history of the silicon valley of India but after the brief, the reading and the research the picture of Bangalore is rather clear in my head and has given me the basis for further research.
